Incredible Kinnaur – Meet the Mountains

Kinnaur Reckong Peo0

Location: Pooh, Kinnaur Image Credit: Vikas Sharma

Few days back I’ve been to this place called Kinnaur. It has spellbinding scenery with tall mountains which seems like touching the sky with their snow clad peaks shrouded with clouds; the view at every turn had just given me goose bumps. It wouldn’t be false, if someone would say it’s a world within a world, and after spending a week there, I can’t spot myself from writing few words about this place, so here you go:

Kinnaur Reckong Peo13Kinnaur, it consists of very high mountains, deep valleys or gorges, glaciers and rivers; it’s one of the districts of Himachal – India. This tremendously beautiful district have three high mountains ranges: the Zanskar range – present along the northeast and its crest forms the eastern international border of Kinnaur with Tibet, the main Great Himalayan range – runs from northwest to south, and the Dhauladhar range – forms the southern boundary of Kinnaur, merging with the main Himalayan range in southeastern Kinnaur. The highest peaks in Kinnaur are Leo Pargial (6816 meters) and Manirang (6,593 meters). The Kinnaur area of Himachal has been opened to Indian and Foreign tourists since after 1989. While going via Shimla and Rampur – Kalpa, Reckong Peo and Sangla Valley can be visited by Indians and Foreigners without any restrictions. To travel beyond Jangi in Kinnaur to Kaza in Spiti one requires an inner line permit for foreign nationals.

Kinnaur Reckong Peo14It’s a land of fairy tales and fantasies, has a spectacular terrain of lush green valley, orchards, vineyards, snow clad peaks and cold desert mountains. The apples, chilgoza, apricots, pears, grapes, pine nuts and other dry fruits are grown here are world famous, specially the apples, the taste cannot be replicated anywhere else. And about locals, despite bearing deadly winter and living life in tough terrain, you will always find them smiling and content.

Kinnaur Reckong Peo7There are lots of places to visit in Kinnaur, especially for the people who are into trekking, hiking, camping, biking, adventure sports and love to be in the nature. You can find bikers on your way in Kinnaur packed up with camping stuff, and the beautiful trekking route includes the ‘Kinner Kailash’ mountain. The high terrain here provides way to great adventure sports of all kinds, and so for all the adventure lovers, Kinnaur is the place to come at least once despite regarded as one of the most dangerous and toughest roads in the world, the thrill and the fun is just out of the world experience. The landscape is so beautiful, after every few miles there’s a different landscape and some parts being like the moon land, and you would feel like being in a different world.

Kinnaur Reckong Peo10There is a beautiful Nako lake, a beautiful place called Kalpa famous for its apple and chilgoza plantations, which are found only in Iran and Turkey besides here, another place called Banjara which lead you into the time zone untouched by man and time, then Sangla Valley surrounded by snow-clad peaks and beside the gurgling Baspa river, then Batseri village across the banks, which boasts of a beautiful Devta temple made of wood, and then three famous wild life sanctuaries which you won’t find anywhere else in the world as they are unique for their high altitude and the animals they protect, and then the untouched places like Chitkul, Bhaba Valley, Hangrang Valley, Moorang, Pooh, Kaza, etc.

Kinnaur Reckong Peo9I spent my 3 days in Reckong Peo and 2 days in Pooh and all through this place, the view is simply amazing, one side of the road is occupied with a deep gorge made by the river and other side is surrounded by hilly slopes, mountain peaks cover with snow and shrouded by clouds. Whenever you pass through a narrow section of road, the view of Satluj River below can shiver your bones with thrill and excitement.

Kinnaur Reckong Peo4The untouched mountains, unaltered part of this world and the mystical valleys offer solace and comfort, to every weary traveler. Snow covered mountain peaks, apples hanging on the tree branches, sudden waterfalls, hairpin turns and zig-zag roads will be your best friends while traveling in this part of the world. If anyone is looking for place which gives them calmness in their own way, place where tranquility is at its zenith and the place where landscapes and atmosphere becomes your best soother, then Kinnaur is one of the places you need to visit. The journey to Kinnaur will take you into some of the most beautiful places most of us have only heard but never seen; a journey into one of the most beautiful valleys in the country and probably the world.

Here’s few more pictures, though not clicked perfectly but still sharing with you all, and in Kinnaur there are places far more scenic and exhilarating than these images which I tried to capture during my stay in this beautiful place.

Note: Roads are tough and dangerous in Kinnaur, also featured on History Channel in one of their reality shows, and climate is also a challenge there but despite of all this it’s a must visit place at least once.

It’s Beautiful to Enjoy Solitude

It’s better to be in solitude for a while at times than having meaningless conversations over and over with someone whom you don’t want to spend your time with. Here I’m not talking about avoiding conversation with anyone; I’m just talking about having exhausting and meaningless conversations, and about solitude.

I find it better to figure out myself, do the things I want to do, lost in my thoughts, traveling, strolling around the places alone than being with someone who is faking, irritating or with whom I find it difficult to share time over unnecessary conversations. It’s meaningless and exhausting to spend time with people you really don’t want to spend your time with, and whereas sometimes it’s beautiful and enlightening to even enjoy solitude, and of course it is easy to enjoy solitude only when it isn’t forced.

There is a different pleasure, tranquility and power in being able to find contentment in solitude and if you are able to be content or cheerful in your alone times then even in the emptiest times in your life you can find serenity and happiness. It’s only you who can turn aloneness into good solitude, the good solitude has a constructive purpose, it may still hurt occasionally but if you know what it’s for, how it can be utilized and how it can be good for you, then the solitude can be enjoyable and would teach you something worth to learn.

By all this I just want to say, you don’t always need someone around you, as sometimes it’s good to be in solitude and to expand our horizons we need to go through both the phases. I’m not suggesting solitude is better than being with people. I’m just expressing what I feel and have experienced, sometimes it’s impossible to completely avoid aloneness in life, but remember it’s worth being open to get in solitude for a while till you get around someone to whom you can connect well than spending time with someone over meaningless conversations.

Cheers,

Vikas Sharma

Sukhna Lake Chandigarh IMG_20150718_182702
Here’s publishing one more post on Sukhna Lake after my last year post on it. Have been on the shores of this lake few days back after quite long time, around after 5-6 months I think, though it’s not far from my place, would be around 9 miles something.

Sukhna Lake Chandigarh IMG_20150718_182652Well! For your information who doesn’t know about this lake, it’s Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, India, it’s a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik hills. Yes! I love to be in the nature, and have visited and spent time at places from extremely wilder to the place of full serenity, and about this lake, I would say it’s just a relaxing and beautiful place to spend or enjoy some time.

Sukhna Lake Chandigarh IMG_20150718_180707It’s one of the attraction place here in Chandigarh, and perhaps, this lake could be the most visited tourist spot in Chandigarh.

Sukhna Lake Chandigarh IMG_20150718_180200Coolness and calmness of the lake, and beautiful sunset view of the lake are some of the words that could explain this place, but it’s little busy in the weekends and in the evening.

Mcleod Ganj, A Fine Hill Station

Just came back home a day before after an official visit to one of the finest hill station, that is Mcleod Ganj. It’s a small and beautiful hill station in Dharamshala (situated in Himachal Pradesh, India).

Mcleod Ganj

There is a 10Km long Trek known as Triund around Mcleod Ganj, I really wished if I could go for it but as it was an official visit for some official work I didn’t get time for it but I will come back once again just to do this beautiful trek up to the Triund Hills.

Just in case, any of you planning to go there then for your information I would like to share few things to visit in Mcloead Ganj like Tsuglagkhang Complex, Bhagsunag Waterfall, Dal Lake, St. John in the Wilderness, Bhagsunag Temple, and also there are some treks worth to pay a visit at least once like Triund Trek with a majestic view of Dhauladhar mountain Range.

McLeod Ganj is also a residence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the site of the Tibetan exile community’s main temple. The Tibetan government-in-exile is based just downhill at Gangchen Kyishong, and McLeod is home to a large Tibetan population, including many monks and nuns, and due to large population of Tibetans it is also known as Little Lhasa or Dhasa; a short form of Dharamshala used mainly by Tibetans.

Mcleod Ganj has some very magnificent views of nature with snow clad hills around it, and one can find many activities and things to do in McLeod Ganj like day hikes/trekking, camping, strolling around the hills and watching the scenic beauty of nature, spending some peaceful time in the lap of nature, also there you’ll find workshops and volunteer opportunities too.

WELCOME TO PARADISE: Summer Holidaying in GOA

Guest post by Vaibhav:

“Take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.” That’s what Axl F. Rose sang on the Guns n’ Roses song, ‘Paradise City’ about going off to a place where there’s beauty and serenity followed by non-stop partying. Well-known for its beaches, babes and booze, Goa is undeniably India’s paradise state. Being a tourist hot-spot, Goa attracts people from all over the world every year who visit the city to escape their monotonous lives for a few days of fun and frolic.

While many believe that winters are the ideal time of the year to take a trip down to paradise, a summer holiday in Goa can’t be underestimated. Let’s have a look at the top 5 reasons why you should be holidaying in Goa during summer ’15.

1. Everything is cheaper!
As fewer people tend to visit Goa in summer time, the tourist industry slashes its prices bya great margin. From cheaper air travel and cheaper hotel stay to a tour of Goa’s major cities and mouth-watering food – everything is available at amazing discounts! The extra money you save can then be spent on partying and drinks – all of which are at a reduced cost.Note: The local beverage Feni – available in two variations; cashew feni and coconut feni is something you must try!

2. Shop ‘til You Drop!
During summers, Goa offers a splendid shopping experience! The shops are stocked with superb itemswhich are available at surprisingly low prices. The best part is that there is no need for bargaining and no sense of rush. It is also a great time to purchase some exclusive Goa summer wear for men, which you can take back to the city with you as souvenirs and gifts for friends. Note: Floral printed shirts and shorts are the must have piece of clothing when you’re in Goa.

3. Far from the maddening crowds.
What’s the point of going on a vacation if the place you’re going to is just as populated as the city? Summers in Goa are hot, and most people avoid the heat and instead head for the hills to get that ‘living in a refrigerator’ feel. This is good for you, as it means fewer tourists, more fun!

4. Adventure Sports
Summers are a great time to try water sports like Jet Skiing in Goa. When in Goa, you just cannot miss out on the adventure sport of Para-sailing; it is also a lot more fun and way cheaper during the summer season. The wind, the breath-taking view of the horizon and the elevation is the closest you can get to being a bird. Fly away!

5. Picture Perfect
Do you distress over visiting a beautiful place or fort and all you can manage to capture are pictures of people taking pictures? This season, wipe the dust off your DSLR and get clicking! The beautiful sunset on Palolem beach awaits you!

Clouds and Rain

Right now at this moment, it is cloudy with intermittent rain here at my place in Chandigarh, weather has been cloudy and rainy since last few days. I’m putting up here in Chandigarh since last three years and it usually didn’t rain at this time of the year but then we can’t be sure about the nature. I’ll be leaving for Kullu tomorrow as of my some official work there. It’s a beautiful place with so much bestowed natural beauty with its beautiful snow clad mountains and more. I’ll share pictures if I get a chance to click some during my visit. That’s the update from my side for now, but wait I would like to share with you all a thought or just one of my opinion, that is:

Awareness is powerful, and when you become aware of your fear, weakness and pain or simply when you overcome them then it turns you into a more stronger person as knowing or overcoming your fear, weakness and pain will certainly make it more difficult to other people to turn them against you.

Keep Rocking ~ Vikas Sharma

I was just wondering… (repost)

Vikas Sharma - Change by actsJust publishing one of my old post again!

So here I go, have a good read:

I was just wondering how one can live his life to the fullest and this made me to put this blog in front of you all. There are many things which we can do to live our life to the fullest, why settle for anything less if you deserve something better? We all deserve the best and to get the best out of our life, we all should keep developing ourselves. Try to find pleasure in everything around you, it’s a beautiful world if you know there to look. Love every bit of your life to the fullest whether it is pleasant or not as it belongs to you, somehow you are the man who is responsible for creating all these moment around you! Always relish in the little moments because these little moments make your life complete.  Spending time with your family and friends, snuggling under warm covers on a rainy day, ice cream on a hot day, a kiss with your loved one, a walk by the park, gentle breeze on your face, sometimes getting drenched in the rain, quiet alone time, calling someone after a long time; feel all these little moments and if possible, try new things. What’s something you would normally not do? Get out of your comfort zone, try something different. It can be something simple like instantly planning to visit a place with your friends, taking a new route, any surprise to your friends or to your family members, trying a new food item which you have never tried, picking up a new interest or hobby. There are many things; you can try something bigger, like studying a different field, traveling to a place you have never thought to visit, exploring any unknown place. You know, there is a lot to explore; there is a lot to learn and experience.

As Steve Jobs said ~ “Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinion drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Life is too short to do anything else you don’t like. Sometimes, situation doesn’t favor us to do the things we love to do but never give up easily. Try to do the things you love because who knows maybe someday you will get what you want! We all have certain things in our life which gives us fulfillment and happiness; try to spend time on those things. Never stop learning from your surroundings, there is something to learn from everything you see, hear and experience. This includes everything like your mistakes, misconceptions or anything you did wrong in your past, i mean if any! Learn from all these mishaps and surely it will make you a better person than you were in past. I think, nobody is perfect and practice can’t make anybody perfect but practice is one of the things which make you better and better. So never stop practicing to become a better person. There is one more thing which can help you to become a better person and that is criticism. Try to learn from criticism and be open to criticism but don’t be affected by it. Criticism is meant to help you to be a better person. There are many things which can contribute to our betterment. And if there’s anything you don’t like about someone, say it to him in the face or otherwise, don’t say it at all. Backbiting is not a nice thing to do. We are human beings and there are lots of things which we face in our day to day life. Try to understand and feel another person’s feelings, try to be empathetic. If everyone only sees life from his own perspective, we’ll forever be close-minded and insular. See things from others’ shoes. Be a compassionate person, show compassion and kindness to everyone around you.

As said by Dalai Lama ~ “Compassion is something really worthwhile. It is not just a religious or spiritual subject, not a matter of ideology. It is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Compassion and love are precious things in life. They are not complicated: they are simple, but difficult to practice.”

I must want to say this that without creativity and art earth would be just dull. Fall into any kind of art. Art can make our life more bearable, art is a way to grow our soul and art can teach you many things about the life. Creativity is one of those things which make us superior than other living beings on our planet. Creativity makes our life different. So focus on creation, think about what you can bring to the world, and try to create it! There will be lots of people who might appreciate your creativity and art. Bring changes in yourself, we live in a world where we have so many things to do, there are so many taboos in our society, there are many things we want to change in the world. As in simple words, be the change you want to see in the world. The only person you can change is yourself, stop expecting others to behave in a certain way. Rather than expecting that others around you change, focus on changing yourself.

Let the people who’ve touched you know of your gratitude towards them, so express gratitude. If you don’t tell them, they’ll never know; expressing gratitude makes a positive connection. Let loose and have fun, hanging out with your friends or family, sing at the top of your lungs, dance in the rain, watching movie with your beloved ones, sometimes breaking your limits, Getting into nature and feel it, smile more. Are you reading this with a straight face? Smile and have fun. It’s only through being the best we can live our life to the fullest and if life is hard then live it hard and enjoy it to the fullest. Love yourself; you are the person who will live with you for the rest of your whole life. Treasure and love yourself!  Love others; be grateful for all the people around you because they help you to grow. They enrich your life experience. At last I want to say, Love life, living a life is fascinating experience; and I believe our life should be composed of these five things: Live, Explore, Learn, Create and Share.

Mesmeric View, Through the Window

This place is Kasauli, a small and beautiful town somewhere in the hills. I’ve been to this place many times, and no doubt I enjoyed and cherished every moment which I’ve spent there. The picture is captured by me through the window of a resort where I stayed. The view through the window, particularly in the morning was mesmeric!
